Summer 2014 Internship Decision

Job hunting season is officially over! The company that I will work at this summer is..

RelateIQ Logo

After some deliberation, I have decided to spend Summer of 2014 as a software engineer intern at RelateIQ, a big data startup in Palo Alto that is building software for relationship management.

I was already in love with the product when I applied to them at the University of Michigan’s Startup Career Fair and a recent Series B of $29 million validated my beliefs in the product and company. What really sold me came after I completed rounds of some really tough, but fun coding interviews and received an offer..

Welcome Emails

After I received an offer, a bunch of people from the RelateIQ team sent me emails congratulating me, telling me stories about their time at the company, and answering any questions I had about the company. After that, it was very easy to make a decision!

Anyways, I am officially pumped for Summer ’14 to roll around. :)

2014: Outdo Last Year

2013 was one of the most exciting years of my life. Among all the things I did this year, I won my first hackathon, fulfilled my role as director of 1000 Pitches, helped coordinate the largest hackathon ever, worked at an amazing startup, and advanced my skills as a designer and developer.

The best time to start something was yesterday. The second best time is now.

And the new year is the best time to add more stuff to my to-do list. While the theme of 2013 was to learn and do a lot of new things, the main goal of 2014 will be to refine and develop everything I have learned and to experience everything I do with real depth.

Here are some of the things I picked up in 2013 that I want to refine in 2014.

There is a Virtue to Fitness

I spent 2013 getting my body back in shape. I have been going to the gym regularly, rock climbing, and playing lots of sports. But if I want to hike the Appalachian Trail and survive the impending zombie apocalypse, I’m gonna have to get into peak physical condition.

Build Things People Want

I spent 2013 building things. But not things that actually improve our society. It’s time to figure out how I can actually change the world.

Every Day is a Hustle

Being from SoCal, I was born and raised to live and let live. I spent 2013 trying to drop my passive behavior.

Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.

Now it’s time to really step up my game.

Just Wing It

So many things are out of our control. The best way to be prepared for anything is to be able to think fast on my feet.

Calvin and Hobbes: A New Year

Also some of the best stories I have of 2013 started with a spontaneous decision.

Keep Up with Breadth

Just because I want to experience things in more depth doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t stop bombarding myself with random new experiences. There are so many things I want to do this year like:

  • Experience Burning Man.
  • Gamble in Las Vegas.
  • Go to more live concerts.
  • Learn to cook.
  • Brazil for the World Cup?

It’s going to be a great year. Cheers to 2014!

Not a huge fan of EDM music, but I still had a great time and made a ton of new friends at my first rave!

10/10 would go to another. :)
